Born and raised in New York, Lisa’s strength has always been advocating to win.

After graduating from the University of Rochester in 1990, with a bachelors of arts degree, double majoring in Political Science and Economics, she went on to attend Washington University School of Law in St. Louis, Missouri. At the beginning of her second year of law school, she was awarded the American Jurisprudence Award for excellent achievement in the study of trial practice. After receiving her J.D. in 1993, Lisa began working as an Associate Attorney for Kamer Zucker Abbott, the largest employment law firm in Nevada representing employers, which mostly consisted of the well-known casinos.

Not long after she began as an employment lawyer, Lisa realized that most employment disputes boil down to the same type of bullying we all experienced in elementary school, all of which involved, hurt feelings, he-said/ she-said, and wanting to be heard and respected by others. Yet, the stakes involved in her employment law cases, were much higher, with exorbitant costs and personal liability often times at stake.

"Lisa Sherman has been extremely helpful as outside counsel for my company in employment litigation matters. She is very well-versed in CA employment law and will advocate zealously to protect your business. Lisa has been a pleasure to work with and I highly recommend her."

~ Kim Godsey

Throughout the 1990s and early 2000s she worked as an Associate Attorney for the largest employment firm and a boutique employment firm composed of former big firm lawyers in Los Angeles, before spending several years as in-house Corporate Counsel for a healthcare company where she oversaw thousands of employees in several offices in three states. After the healthcare company was sold, Lisa partnered with the healthcare company’s former outside counsel, launching her own law firm in 2013. Soon after Lisa obtained her certification from the Association of Workplace Investigators (“AWI”) improving her skills in conducting independent workplace investigations. For several years, Lisa co-chaired the local AWI chapter and was a featured speaker in October 2015 at its annual meeting on electronically stored evidence in workplace investigations.

The Sherman Law Corporation deals with every step of the employment relationship – from before the employee is hired until after termination.

Lisa has a high success rate in her cases, obtaining dismissals on behalf of employers approximately 95% of the time, and obtaining monetary sanctions against employees for pursuing frivolous lawsuits approximately 95% of the time she has sought sanctions. For this reason, she has also been recognized by Super Lawyers for Employment & Labor Law both in 2019 and in 2020. The firm was also featured in the Los Angeles Daily Journal just a year after opening.

Because of the emotional nature of these cases that she noticed early on in her career, Lisa has adapted into the practice at her firm emotional support for her clients, as well. All her clients are given her personal contact information and are encouraged to discuss all aspects of the case with Lisa. This communication with her clients is not only extremely important to the client, but also helps Lisa decide which options to recommend.

While most litigators simply go through the cookie cutter steps of litigation, Lisa immediately assesses the case factually and legally, and, once she has an understanding of the case, provides her client with realistic expectations about liability, damages, fees, and time expectancy. From there, she presents her clients with several options, as well as their pros and cons, advocating the most cost-effective solution.

“I consider my clients to be as important as my family … As soon as I get command of the facts of a case, I want them to go back to work with as little disruption as possible so they can regain a sense of normalcy and treat the litigation as simply a cost of doing business.”

Despite all her years of success in the employment law field, Lisa’s biggest accomplishment is her two kind, compassionate daughters. Lisa is proud that both girls are driven to succeed in whatever they do and always put the needs of others above their own.
